Daniel Klein

Prior to co-founding KE with Meldir Erbulekova, American Daniel Klein (who is also a Canadian citizen). Daniel has significant experience working at prestigious American law firms, such as Pennie & Edmonds and Marks & Sokolov, the successor firm to Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev & Marks (EPAM). From 2009 to 2012, he served on the board of directors of several subsidiaries of PPF/Generali’s Eldorado Electronics, NSK, and Sibzavod, among others.

Expertise and Leadership

Daniel is a recognized expert on legal issues affecting Western companies operating in the CIS, Europe, and the Middle East. He has led the legal and business strategies for numerous start-ups, venture capital/private equity investments, and company expansions through acquisitions and organic growth.

Notable Experience

Served as EMEA Managing Director for Hypercom (formerly NYSE: HYC; recently purchased by Verifone), the world’s second-largest payment terminal manufacturer, overseeing offices in Dubai, Moscow, Budapest, Paris, and England.

Extensive experience in real estate, franchising, mortgages, financial leasing, corporate structures, and contract law.

A seasoned intellectual property attorney, skilled in litigating and prosecuting patents, trademarks, and copyrights, especially regarding counterfeit goods.

Worked at Pennie & Edmonds in New York, managing global trademark filings, product licensing, and new sports franchising for high-profile clients such as Australian Rules Football and the NBA.

Education

Daniel holds a Juris Doctor (New York Law School), an MBA (London Business School), and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Washington University in St. Louis). He passed to the State Bars of New York, Massachusetts and the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Current Residence and Focus

Daniel resides in Tbilisi, frequently traveling to Almaty and the USA. KE focuses on assisting Western clients with existing or planned subsidiaries in Kazakhstan, bridging cultural differences, and ensuring efficient and compliant business operations in Kazakhstan.
